Maya Style Goaling

I'm trying to achieve maya style goaling with the creep node - from what I can see though the creep node is either on or off and you can't adjust the strength - I'd like to use the creep node to drive particles using surface UV but also have some influence from dynamic forces.

I've done some searching and apparently there used to be some tutorial on cmivfx describing this but I don't think it exists anymore...

anyone got any suggestions?
