terze
the next step is to make it move and deform similarly to a cloud this is basically a i3d cloud and iso surface volume

Symbolic
Thanks man! ...Because I have been trying those i3d things for ages. And always get confused about the workflow... Metaballs, Shapes -> 3D Geometry ROP + 3D procedural textures (fluffy clouds?) -> i3d -> Read in the i3d? -> Apply a volume texture? -> Render? Cheers. larsenXO
would be cool to see an example of how it's set up. How do you get the nice look with i3d? I am having problems getting self shadowing on volumes without raytrace shadows. What am I missing? Should it not self shadow with transparent (deep) shadow maps? I am currently doing a displaced volume approach, and it looks nice, but the rendering times are just a little long. tnx.

RuschFX
hey terze.... the clouds look great! I'm doing a similar project and i've run into an issue. I was wondering if you know how to change the color of raytraced shadows within houdini (if it's even possible) or if you have to do it in post? If it's only possible to color correct the shadows in post, would you have any idea how to get a separate shadow pass of the shadows on the clouds? I tried applying a shadow matte to the clouds but by doing that i lose the smokey texture on the clouds resulting in a jagged unusable shadow pass..... Thanks in advance!
