terze
Hello, Here is a version of the candle that was done for the houdini 9 road show, but mine is not fluids based, but particles based, and used point instancing lights and used the sss ops. hope you like. http://studentsites.expression.edu/~terze/candle.mov
wick3dParticle
Hey that is pretty cool, I really like the flame. I am trying to put together a similar effect, but I am still trying to understand the shading system here. May I ask how you put together your shader? Great job! ~Ilan
terze
its just a basic xray shader that takes the color values from the particles.
wick3dParticle
Thanks Terze, I should mention that I am pretty new. I don't see the xray shader in shops, or in the material palette. Is the xray shader something that you downloaded and added on? is it a shader that is easy to write? Thanks, ~Ilan

wick3dParticle
Cool! I'm going to take a look at that, and figure out how it works. Thanks again, ~Ilan Edited February 5, 2008 by wick3dParticle

old school
The xray shader snapshot doesn't include premultiplying the diffuse with the opacity. Pretty much a necessity for a typical xray shader. You get a great look with the flame without premultiplying and that is fine. It is a good idea to have a toggle to allow the premultiply though. I tweaked your shader out a bit and attached the file with the vop net in it. I also added support for the import of Cd and Alpha geometry attributes if they exist.. xray_shader.hip
