After a good while in developement I am happy to announce my Light Rig Digital Asset.

NOTE: THIS ASSET HAS BEEN CREATED WITH APPRENTICE. DO NOT USE IN COMMERCIAL PROJECTS AS IT IS STILL IN BETA.

Main features:

- Use any geometry as lightsource

- Keyframe all parameters including light source geometry type

- Ability to use geometry with changing point count

- Use an image to color the lights

- Distribute lights according to luminance or alpha values of an image

- Use your own light shader if preferred

- Depth map and raytraced shadows

- Full control over target and light source

- Lots of options to control what you see in the viewport

- Import your texture from the compositor to enable live editing of the light source texture

- Supports animated textures. Enable distribution of lights on an animated texture to get a dynamic setup

- Visual feedback includes, but are not limited to:

-- Light Geometry

-- Light Origin

-- Light Target

-- Relation between source and target

-- Geometry colors relative to the color of the applied texture

-- Display source light attributes directly in viewport (Use the attributes Color, lumi, alpha)

- Plus much more...

Thanks to everyone that tested this thing, and a special thanks to eetu and the kind people in #odforce who helped me out when I got stuck.

If you find it useful or have any comments, do not hesitate to contact me or leave a mark in here!

great rig.

Very easy to use. Might want to make the gap smaller between sections, ie the transform light and target, general options. I had to scroll down for a bit :)

did a quick test with it. Very simple options, rendered super fast as expected.

phrenzy84 & Mario Marengo: Thanks for the positive feedback! :)

morpheus101: Thank you for reporting this. A new version of the file has been uploaded which fixes this and some minor naming adjustments. The download link is the same.
