graham
You can use a Scatter sop with 'Scatter Based on Primitive Area' turned off to get as many points randomly along your curve as you want. As for normals you could use the Tangent sop from the exchange.

ragupasta
As for the normals...how would you go to orient them outwards...meaning away from the curve? Changing the normal value in a pointSOP to point whichever way you require. E.G: 0, 1, 0 in the normal field of a pointSOP. Alternativly depending on the situation, you could add a branch off from above the pointSOP with a sortSOP, and under points folder change the dropdown box to shift, now shift that to 1, and wire that into the right input of the pointSOP, then in the normal feild of the pointSOP type, $TX2, $TY2, $TZ2. That will push the normals to face the location from the second input. Not always the best method, but it has been handy a few times when copying things to curves/lines.
