learning houdini scripting, coming from other software

hi all,

This is my first post in this forum. I've used 3dsmax, maya and xsi, and i extensively did my scripting in xsi to automate processes (creation, rigging, etc).

After comparing xsi and houdini, i realized that houdini is the way to go for full procedural power since it is being designed to do just that, and being proven in production pipelines for ages.

I have a few questions;

1) where can i find references on houdini scripting examples/tutorials (mainly on rigging, rendering setup, etc)?

2) I've read before that old version of houdini had problem with interactivity going downhill if the simulation is going more than 150 frames. Is this still a problem in the latest houdini?

3) I'm not sure about houdini's viewport performance. So far comparing the viewport performance between maya and xsi 7, xsi wins hands down. How is it houdini's viewport's performance compared to maya? Is there any tips for that?

4) If everything is as planned, i was thinking of doing 100% character animation using houdini. Is there any tips that i should take into considerations before going that route?

Thank you.

regards,

Faizol
