scaling delayed load geometry

I'm writing geometry sequences of animated characters using "mantra archive", and reading them back in as delayed load procedural, on an geometry grid with "point instancing" enabled. My characters are already written to disk, but I needed to rescale the scene. Now I'd like to rescale the characters to fit the new scene.

Will I have to rescale them and write them back out to disk, or is there another way to rescale each character?
