Is it necessary to have some graphic designing knowledge inorder to get into the 3D industry ?

No. Entry paths are as varied as there are roles within the industry. Arguably the best foundation is to have a good technical and artictic background but there are plenty of specialist roles that favour candidates with particular strengths. For example, computer programming experience may be useful for tool developers or shader writers wheras matte painters and modelers may benefit from an arts background.

No prerequisites are essential though! The key criteria for getting a job in the 3D industry is that the candidate demonstrates his or her ability and understanding of industry-standard tools with high-quality work on a show reel.
