How To Used Image Based Lighting

Recommended Posts

hey all

am i missing something, but how can i implement image based lighting?

secondly, in softimage, u can specify that an object is visible with either "primary rays" and "secondary rays", (secondary rays -- that being not visible in reflections but visible)

thanks in advance

Hey Brian,

hey all

Here you go:

hdox://houdini/content/base/fm_09_guide_lighting_1013795.xml

If the above doesn't work for you, start the Hbrowser:

* Home

* ▷ Getting started with Houdini

* ▷ Tutorials

* ▷ Lights

* ▷ Lighting Tutorials

* ▷ Lesson 1: Environment Illumination

* ▷ Part 2: Image-based Illumination

secondly, in softimage, u can specify that an object is visible with either "primary rays" and "secondary rays", (secondary rays -- that being not visible in reflections but visible)

Under the Object's Render tab, turn on Phantom & set the value to 1.

Cheers!

Hey Ed,

thanks for the reply, that route produced similiar results when compared to the XSI ibl,

i just needed to know if that is the perscribed route for ibl or if there was something easier.

hey steven

thanks for the ibl help, its exactly what i was looking for :-)

i wasnt specific in my question, because im aware of phantom hiding the object in primary rays and making it visible in secondary rays, however... how do i do the opposite ;)

thanks once again

You will have to exclude the object from the Reflection Mask of the other Objects. Try using the Light Linker if you have lots of objects to exclude.

If it's only one object to be excluded, select all but the one to be excluded, change the Reflection Mask to be

* ^name_of_object_to_be_excluded

That's it.

Hope that helps.

Cheers!
