roughsporty
The funny „surprise“ scene This is the first project which I want to create. As a starting point I have created a HOT ocean with a simple shader on it, just to have something to look nice for the first step. I also have added a background image and put that through the comp. This ist the result: With sound: The next steps will be: - place a dummy (will be replaced later with a buoy on the water with natural movement - add a little movement to the camera so there is more dynamic in the scene and more realistic - replace the backdrop image with an environment and add some subtle clouds - „the surprise“ - add real foam advected from the peaks of the wave (particles / shader) - tweak the shader of the ocean - a very good lightning setup. - tweak, tweak, tweak I will place regulary my results here. After I have roughly put all things together I will put the scene file here. Would be great to discuss different approaches and maybe put some guys together to bring the rough result to a perfect one and share this with the community. roughsporty
I have placed the dummy buoy on the water plane and tweaked the movement through CHOP's so it's movement looks naturally. What do you think ?
rob
Hi, Great start. Are you just using displacement shaders for your ocean ?. rather than adding sound and a buoy I think you should be adding far more detail into the ocean surface. r Edited October 10, 2009 by rob

There is a high density disc mesh on which the buoy is projected. You are right there is a whole lot more to do but I have no specific stages on which I am working on. The ocean is far away from being good looking, I know. What do you mean with more detail? Foam and other things? roughsporty
Again Rob, concerning the "detail thing I think I know what you mean :-) I have used now a displacement shader because of the detail, that doing with a mesh is not an option. roughsporty
here is another animation so far: I think the next step is to tweak the material from the ocean (water/foam). Right now I have a fairly simple material. Just the HOT displacement shader and a very basic surface shader with a lightning model and a fresnel. Is there a a good material out there which I can use instead of recreate a working shader? Is there a way to combine 2 materials or do I have to dive in VEX? Thanks for your tips Edited October 12, 2009 by roughsporty
