dan_cgi
Does anyone know if there will be a Houdini Apprentice Challenge this year? I never had the time to submit any entries in previous years but i was right up for doing one this time round! Thanks Edited May 11, 2010 by dan_cgi
Leon Amion
Perhaps there will be with the next version of Houdini. It would be nice to have smaller competitions though. One-month contests where everyone is supposed to make something cool from DOPS or a limited number of nodes or something like that. The price could be a sidefx tshirt. Mainly for fun

robert.magee
Go suggest it to them on the sidefx forums too! We are working on some ideas to this affect. Do you think that one month is enough time? We were thinking that 2-3 months might be better especially for people who are developing new skills while entering the contest. J.Santos
IMO - 2 months, specially considering that someone new (Like me ) may not have the much needed amount of time to search and experiment with, due to working or studying and so not being able to spend the entire day in front of the computer... Solitude
Another vote for 2 months... I think 3 is too long, and 1 is too short, of course this depends on the challenge. Edited May 11, 2010 by Solitude
Macha
The price could be a sidefx tshirt. Mainly for fun They have T-shirts?! Great! And a couple of free nodes with your face on it would be cool too. 2 months sounds slightly too long for me. I'd loose interest and go off at tangents. I totally forgot about that it takes time to get to know the software. But on the other hand as Macha says if its a long-runner then people may loose there interest so in that sense shorter contests is probably more suited for intermediate to advanced level. Consideration of scene complexity and expected end results should probably be taking into account when setting the time limits. Perhaps running mini-contests along with longer contests is the way to go. And a couple of free nodes with your face on it would be cool too. Hehe that would be sweet! quinniusmaximus
Another simple point to remember.. just because the contest is 2 months doesn't mean you can't submit within the first month (or week if you're that fast). 2 Months to me sounds quite reasonable. As currently, my "free" time is nearly none and my knowledge is still scant. Good point Robert. Yeah one month might be too short for newcomers.
