Ponge
Hey guys, I've just submitted my latest project on the MA. Digital Effects course at Bournemouth University and since this site has been such an amazing resource I thought I should post it. I'm quite happy with how it turned out, the trebuchet is animated with rigid bodies, the smoke and fire simulated with Pyro FX. I used eeto's ubershader to procedurally generate the 'grit' map and then comped it all together in NukeX. All in all a 6 week project, and quite a lot of fun (with several very late nights!) Any comments or critique are very welcome before I try to polish it up a little for my showreel. Cheers, Gary Edited May 15, 2010 by Ponge
J.Santos
NICE!!! IMO the only thing I have to point out is the explosion, is way strong and quick... By quick I mean that you throw a pot in flames (probably full of oil or something) and you hit what appears to be an pile of wood (???) or soemthing and that almost immediatly explodes... I think that it would be cool to see the flame/oils splashes and the fire starting to involve the pile and then it could explode... again, IMO! I really liked the camera takes you did! MA hey? I'm going in September!!! Can't wait to be there!!! Good luck for the rest of the term...
postezz
great work! The thing which bothers me is that the pieces are flying too fast and too far away from the place of the explosion, you may also add fire tail to the cannon ball in the air,and maybe if you lower the turbulence of the main explosion it may look a bit better.Great modeling, texturing and camera work! Thanks guys, I was kind of going for an over-exaggeration with the effect of the explosion. Its meant to be a target dragon that they're aiming at, as if this was some sort of medieval weapons testing facility. Can I ask, does the video appear really dark on your screens? When I play it at my workstation it looks fine, but then I saw it on someone elses machine and it was really dark. I've uploaded a quick breakdown of my work if anyone is interested... Cheers, Gary P.s. J, The course at the NCCA is great and I'm sure you'll learn a lot :-)
J.Santos
Nice breakdown! To (try to) answer your question... In my monitor the image reminds me of one of those mornings, really early and with small rain falling... ehehe... It's a bit greyish but not that dark... it goes with the mood I think! cheers
