haggi
I tried to built a similiar scene, only a few cubes, in maya and houdini to test DOF. It works but there is a huge difference in the amount of blur. With almost the same settings, distance, focus distance, f-stop, in houdini the blur is almost invisible and in maya with mentalray and the default maya camera dof settings, the blur is huge. To get amlost the same result, I have to set the f-stop in maya to 32 and in Houdini to .2. I exported my cubes from maya as obj to be sure to have the same scene scale. Any ideas if there is something wrong with my approach? Should the results for the same settings not be similiar in both renderers?
ikarus
I would guess it has to do with the scale of your scene, atleast with real cameras f32 is pretty small and you get nearly no depth of field while something like a f2.8-3.5 gets you huge bokeh and stuff, make sure your scene scale is properly set
haggi
Yes, you are right. One unit in houdini is one meter by default, in maya it is one centimeter. I switched the units in houdini and now it works fine. Thanks.
