DaJuice
Anyone had a play with SSS in PBR renders? I'm noticing orders of magnitude increases in rendertimes. This is using the 'Mantra Surface' material. My render/shader settings don't seem like anything out of the ordinary, here's an example... With SSS: 36 minutes Without SSS: 30 seconds Cheers
Nerox
Hi DaJuice, I can't tell you where the difference in render time comes from. As far as I believe the color difference between the images is probably due to the fact that diffuse, specular and SSS are layered on top of each other. So if you uncheck one of those effects it will affect the shaded color, though it appears much more obvious when you have total different colors for each of the 'shading layers'. To visualize it for your self I think you can compare it to regular multi pass compositing. Edited August 31, 2010 by Nerox
DaJuice
Hiya Nerox, I'm not really concerned about the color contributions, that can be adjusted. The 72x increase in render-time is harder to ignore...
jason_slab
you using single or multiple scatter or both?
DaJuice
I had been using single or both. I just tried it with just multiple scattering and it's much faster (!) Going to have a play with it.
