hopbin9
Hi, Anyone know how I can find the index of refraction (IOR) for engine oil (10W30). I'm know water has an IOR of 1.33, and oil is lighter then water. So I'm assuming that a lower IOR would be logical. So maybe 1.2 would be a good guess, but does a lighter liquid naturally mean a lower IOR? Thanks,
hopbin9
Playing around with the glass shader, and produced this strange looking fluid. Kind of like a waxy bee honey or something. Thought it was kind of cool
hopbin9
I can't figure out, how in Mantra PBR to set a glass shader's density fall off. Nothing seems to work. This seems like a standard feature in must raytracers for transparent effects. Any help?
Macha
Maybe this helps: http://www.physics.uc.edu/~johnson/Boone/oil_page/refraction/refraction.html

Any help? in h11 when using refraction adjust the attenuation that will do the falloff, you need to play with it a lot because it is scene dependent, for quick turn arounds uncheck everything and just focus on getting that setting to work. Jason
Are you talking about absorption? Yes, there is no Side Effects-provided solution for that for PBR. It is possible to create the effect satisfactorily if you know how to write shader code though. I can't figure out, how in Mantra PBR to set a glass shader's density fall off. Nothing seems to work. hopbin9
Maybe this helps: http://www.physics.u...refraction.html Thanks. IOR of Oil is higher like 1.4, that will help a lot.
Macha
What I find interesting in this link is how we can see the change of wavelength causes a changes in iof. I suppose the angle parameter approximates this somewhat but hey, there's a challenge to ambitious shader writers!
