Guest xionmark
Hi everyone, Houdini Real Flow ROP/IFD plugin is now available for general consumption. >From the web page: "The Real Flow SD File Export ROP/IFD (Render Operator) will export Houdini geometry to Real Flow SD (Scene Description) files. This ROP will support multiple objects and camera data (camera data will be working in the next release). The Real Flow SD file supports a feature called "Matrix or Vertex Mode". "Matrix Mode" will simply output the objects geometry only once, but the object's transformation data for each frame in the animation. "Vertex Mode" will output geometry for each frame but ignores the objects transformation at the object level, which allows geometry deformations to appear in the SD file (This may be changed in the future to support both modes at once)." Here's the URL: http://www.digitalcinemaarts.com/dev/real_flow/ Linux version will follow shortly. As before, please report any bugs to support@digitalcinemaarts.com. To date, there's been over a hundred downloads and I know of about a dozen people evaluating and/or using it in production (and no bug reports! ... keeping fingers crossed ...). Now that I've finished "sketching" out the interface between Houdini and Real Flow, (and before I dive into refining , optimizing and adding more features to the code) I will have more detailed step by step tutorials over the next month. Got lots more planned! Have fun! --Mark
rebo
Good stuff, i dont use Real Flow, do you think its a good compliment to Houdini's inbuild particle abilities, or are Houdini's inbuilt ones sufficient in 99% of water simulation scenarios? Guest xionmark
Hi there, I think Real Flow is a good compliment to Houdini. Houdini has by far the easiest and most flexible particle system of all the major 3D applications, but Houdini doesn't have true CFD (computational fluid dynamics) yet. What's also nice is that for Select users, you can use Real Flow for very elaborate fluid simulations and not to try to do it all in the very few particle related SOPs, considering of course that Select has no POPs. I would think SESI is working on CFD considering Houdini's dominant position in the effects market. However, I was amazed that at this year's SIGGRAPH, there were many course on fluid dyanaimcs, water, water, everywhere! And Houdini was not mentioned very often ... I gotta think SESI is cooking up something pretty amazing though! --Mark
Guest xionmark
Hi there, Just a quick note to let you know the Linux version of the Houdini-Real Flow plugins are all working now and available at: www.digitalcinemaarts.com/dev/real_flow/download I'll be doing a "rewrite" of the plugins over the next week to clean them up and get them out of "beta", after which I'll be developing a few different POP's for Real Flow so one can import the Real Flow particle files right into POP's, as if they were a generator. And I'm adding particle systems inside the SOP instead of just points, and a bunch of other things to optimize and make it easier for the user to "integrate" the 2 applications. If there's a need for support or training, I'm available at competitive rates. :-) --Mark
