PhasmaCeritus
hi, I am trying to make the smoke inherit colors form POPs, where its being emitted from. Peter Quint did the same thing with density on his tutorial "Particle Smoke I". However I can't replicate this with a vector filed (Cd). Please let me know what am I doing wrong. Thanks! colorFromPops.hipnc
Macha
I think this depends a lot on what you want to do with the color. If it is just for rendering I would be tempted to do it after the dop is simulated. However, if for some reason you want to manipulate color data inside the dop network then try the setup below. It's also worth mentioning that if you get vector fields into dops from sops then that data should be a volume. You can convert it into a volume either in sops or, as in my hip, with a gas microsolver. It is probably best to add color during shading as well. col.hipnc

Thanks a lot, thats really helpful, also, now that you have mentioned, how would you change smoke color after the sim? how do I do this in volume VOP? Macha
It depends whether you want the volume to keep an original color or completely replace its color by those of the particles. I attached an example of the latter. I feel there should be an easier way. If I think of one I'll post it! volcol.hipnc Edited April 19, 2011 by Macha

Matt_K
Thanks Macha! Almost six years down the line and this is still a super fast way to colour a volume. Matt.
