hopbin9
hi i was wondering what gfx card for houdini would be best for houdini quadro fx 5600 or the newer geforce gts 450? Geforce is not officially supported, but the Quadro is.
johner
I recommend getting one based on the Fermi architecture. If you want a Quadro series, I've been pretty happy with my Quadro 4000.
Oddball
I recommend getting one based on the Fermi architecture. If you want a Quadro series, I've been pretty happy with my Quadro 4000. Go with Johner on this one. Getting a pre-fermi Quadro wouldn't be adviseable. The Fermi-ones are the 600, 2000, 2000D, 4000, 5000 and 6000. Don't let yourself be fooled by the numbering scheme. hopbin9
I got the GeForce GTX 580 and it uses Fermi (but I have no idea what that even means).
nekhlym
Thanks for all reply's. The thing is that i can get the quadro for free anyway so i guess it`s ok card to use until i can afford a quadro 4000
malexander
One thing to note is that the Quadro 4000 and below are all single-slot cards which don't exhaust the heat outside the case. Make sure you have a case with adequate airflow unless you like hearing the GPU's fan whine at 100% when working in 3D
