Bend geometry in a sinewave-like motion

Hey guys,

so I'm struggling with this effect, I got a sword which I'm supposed to bend by applying a waveform(sinewave)-like motion.

Right now I'm creating the bending effect with a point sop + sin expression, but I'm having some problems here.

Is there some easier way to do this?

Also, is it possible to group the bending points with a softselection / falloff (so the hilt is not affected) ??
