varomix
Houdini and 3Delight Interoperability (October 13th, 2011) cmiVFX releases Brand New Houdini and 3Delight Interoperability Training video by customer demand. This video will show you all of the in and out points of this system, all while demonstrating the creative power that it can harness in each and every artist that uses it. In their projects you will learn how to achieve several crucial scenarios to the Visual Effects Pipeline so that you can be up and running full speed at the end of this video. This content was driven by a large number of emails regarding alternative rendering solutions for Renderman compliant renderers. 3Delight Pro is one of the more popular names in the business due to its availability. This is a step by step trace of how to install 3Delight on Unix and Windows, all the way through final renderings. Consider this the guide for everyone who wants to try 3Delight with hooding. This guide will also help with installing the root system to use with other CG packages with the ability to link to Renderman. They are keeping the price as low as possible so that we can see more people create with this linkage. They are also extending free training videos to a select few artists that send us outstanding renders created with 3Delight and Houdini. moondeer
i took a swing at using 3delight with houdini back in the spring. had some success, but limited in regards to shaders. varo, the portion you did with how to setup your own shaders filled in the gap nicely. that portion alone made the lesson worth it. thanks! jim c
How does the render performance stack up against mantra in terms of speed/quality? The free/home use version limits you to two cores/threads, how does that match up against Mantra running on 8 cores/threads? I've thought of downloading it, but have never gotten around to taking the time to try and set it up.
csp
Hello varomix are you planning to do a tutorial for Houdini and prman? The thing is that I know already the most of the topics you cover in your tutorial for both 3delight and prman by searching in forums and Google but I can find how to create deepshadows in order to take in count motion blur and transparency but the deepshadows are pixar's feature and I guess it's not included in your current tutorial about 3delight renderer. cheers

Cheers!!

Cheers!! thanks for the reply, do you cover deepshadows also or just the basics about shadows? sorry for asking again but this will be the reason for buying this tutorial, just for that chapter and in the chapter description does not include which types of shadow covers and in your previous reply you did mention that 3delight has deepshadows but not if you cover them on your tutorial, you said might lead me in the right direction which is little bit tricky (please don't get me wrong, for someone without previous knowledge all the chapters will be super-useful). cheers

moondeer
for the macintosh users, here is the text for the script described in the lesson. the path is a bit different. paste the below code into a PLAIN text document. the suffix must be .command NOT .txt and you must use chmod to add executable permission #!/bin/bash # setup 3delight cd $DELIGHT source .3delight_bash # setup houdini cd /Library/Frameworks/Houdini.framework/Versions/11.1.67/Resources source houdini_setup_bash # launch houdini houdini for example: user$ chmod a+x 3delight_houdini.command Edited October 29, 2011 by moondeer
