Stremik
So I'm installing Gentoo now. But I want to keep Windows and RedHat that I have right now. I wanted to know how others have their partitions arranged? What I have right now is: First partition-"Windows"; Second partition-"boot"; Third partition-"RedHat"; Fourth partition-"Extended->(swap)". Is there a better way to go about this? Another thing, can I get away with only one "boot" partition or do I have to have a separate one for every Linux Distro? Do I have to install Grub or Lilo again? For Gentoo. tallkien
I have about 10 partitions for my one and only OS. something like /boot : swap : / : /usr : /usr/local : /tmp : /opt : /var : /home : /backup I hope you have enough space for your gentoo partition, or you may have to mess around with your rh setup Good idea to download or even print the gentoo docs. Check the Alternate install page in particular, Its about installing from another distro. I believe you can use the same /boot for gentoo, just be sure to give your new kernel a unique name and edit your grub or lilo.conf file appropriately. Considering the way you have your disks partitioned I think you might be better off starting from scratch. You might prefer something like 1st - Windows 2nd - swap 3rd - /boot 4th - extended (all of remaining hard-disk space) 5th - linux ( break it up any number of ways for better disk perfomance)
