sanostol
All the time working with paintsops is cumbersome and prone to crashes. Just want to know if it is the setup here it is really the paintsop probability to appear increases with painting time: 1. Alt key/ middlemouse does not modify radius anymore 2. Smoothing does very strange modifications to painted map, by now way smoothing it 3. Painting with Paintsop simply crashes houdini, that does really happen often when doing a lot of painting general stuff the paint radius is modified with alt, the paint strenght has no modifier key(sadly) uv mirror seems not to work (tried with point and vertex uvs) i had to use the paintsop since version 12.0 very often but it never really got rid of that issues since then Edited December 9, 2012 by sanostol
acey195
The performance of the paint sop greatly depends on the amount of points of the mesh you are painting on, probably on the size of the brush as well. You could try cutting the object into several smaller objects before painting. edit:Or for that matter how many points does your object have and how old is your machine? sanostol
the performance is not bad at all, it's stability machine is quite new
anim
I noticed paint SOP issues as well (using few machines linux/win) for me they are usually - alt-dragging changes the radius, but sometimes after releasing the Alt, moving the mouse still resizes the brush and it's difficult to exit that mode - painting sometimes doesn't actually paint while drawing the stroke, it only paints circle when I release - quite often crashes when I change to smoothing and try to paint they are quite random, difficult to isolate, but Paint SOP is definitely unstable
bandini
Not really a stability issue, but a question related to the paint sop (sorry if this moves the topic in a tangent)... Is it possible to paint attributes on a point-only object? (An object with no polygons). Seems like connected polygons are a requirement, otherwise the paint sop does not work at all. If I am missing something please let me know. I have not noticed much stability issues with the paint sop - but I don't really use it on dense or complicated meshes. I wonder if deleting all the attributes besides the ones you want to paint might help the stability and performance... Just a thought. Could also be video card related? sanostol
unfortunately it does not seem to be video card related, though I use a consumer card work mates of me have quadros and have the same problems
