kleer001
Anyone try their hand in Houdini at simulating oobleck (a fun mix of corn starch and water)? Here's some guys drooling over the science: Here's some fun with it: It seems like altering viscosity based on velocity in a SOP solver should be easy enough. I'll give it a try and report back... some day.
Solitude
I've done it like you said but instead of velocity I used vorticity. Velocity should work well too. I was able to get the fluid to stiffen up as a sphere collided with it, then go back to low viscosity after it calmed down, but if the mapping of ranges wasn't correct, it could easily freak out. Edit: Uploaded a file. Not perfect, but it certainly is a start. Also, I used the same technique to create effervescence by modifying density based on vorticity, so the areas with a lot of motion would then rise up in the fluid. --Ian h12_Vorticity_oobleck.hip Edited January 8, 2013 by Solitude
