Fracture Object on Collision

Hello ppl,

Alright, I am trying to figure this out and I have tried almost everything. Please take a look the file.

I have box object and now I want only a certain part of it to be broken when a object collides into it. But. the wall starts collapsing even before it hits the object.

I am not using any shelf tools and I am building all the nodes and hence I do not know how to control the impact object.

Can anyone help me on this?

Thanks,

Sid

Hey man,

Thanks,

But I don't see any simulation. I guess something went wrong.

Hi,

I gave it a go, which turned out a bit complex, but see what you can pick up from it. There's probably a simpler way to do it anyway but that's what my monday-brain could come up with. :)

Cheers

Here is example file.

I used painted Cd attribute to alter internal glue of the chunks. This will prevent pieces from falling down from 1st frame.

Additionaly i constrained "parent" object of the glued chunks to ground with pin constraint (as alternative you can use color to set active value of chunk instead - black colored pieces will be inactive while pieces where for example $CR>0.4 - active).

Thanks man. Works fine. I see you have used some expressions. I am still new to houdini and don't really understand what the point expression is trying to do in the glue constraint. Can you please explain.

Thanks,

Sid

Basically the point expression is used to retrieve the point attribute from the geometry.

The help file on hscript expressions is very good reference, if you need some. I'm always going back there.

Cheers
