Lukich
In Maya there is an awesome effect - you can create a curve, and use it to split a plane into two parts. is there a counterpart in houdini? for example, I use a crack preset L-system. can can i use it to split a grid in two? thanks, luka
Stremik
Create a nurbs plane. Create a nurbs curve. Lay down an Project SOP. Pipe Curve SOP in to left input of Project SOP and the Grid SOP in to right. In the Project SOP parameters choose to project "Along Vector" and make it to be a vector perpendicular to the surface of the grid. Appent a Trim SOP to the Project SOP. In the Trim SOP parameters choose which side of the grid you want to keep (Keep Inside/Keep Outside). Now, to have both sides of the grid and split them apart. Create a Reference copy of the Trim SOP. Apply an Transform SOP to each one of them and position halves of the grid where you want them. Finally, Place an Merge SOP and pipe both transform SOPs in to it. That's it.
3__
if you don't mind polys you can just extrude the curve (maybe convert first if nurbs )and use cookie with keep inside and outside A. -cpb
David Gary
hmm. I'm not sure both solutions will work with a big L-system with many generations and multiple branches, that is when you have to split the plane in more than two parts... If it does, i'm interested
Lukich
no, unfortunately none of these will work with something more complex then a single curve. alas
