Particle reflection

I'm having a strange issue where particles that have geometry copied to them are not showing up in the the reflection of the geo they are colliding on, even though the shader on that same geo is able to reflect other objects in the scene, just not the particles.

The geo that is copied to the particles is a metaball.

Is there any reason why they wouldn't appear?
