nap
Hello, I am playing around with the VDB stuff lately and most of it works great. But I noticed that i can't use a plain VDB node and create based on the dimension source a volume, like a velocity field. It always said "<empty>". I like to create a vector field and then manipulate it by the Volume Vop as with the standard Houdini Volumes. Any tips or a workflow explanation would be great. Thanks nap vdb_empty.hipnc.hip
edward
I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do. Why not just append a Volume SOP to your VDB From Polygons?
Hudson
You have to select "mesh attributes" and choose those attr you want to transfer from the polygons to the VDB. It is in the VDB from polygons SOP I have attached something I did for another VDB-topic. It creates a vel field from VDB and apply it to a FLIP-sim *Edit: sorry forgot to attach file VDB_instead_of_Vol_from_attr.hipnc Edited September 20, 2013 by Hudson
nap
Well, I just want to know how to use this node. Thanks nap Okay, thanks Hudson! Do you have a link to this VDB topic? Edited September 20, 2013 by nap
Hudson
well sure. but I just realized that I only spoke with myself on that topic http://forums.odforce.net/index.php?/topic/18118-solvedvdb-instead-of-volume-from-attribute-for-flip/#entry109698

Thanks nap You can't define artibrary bounds of a VDB, it's a sparse field which automatically handles empty/constant spaces. If you wan't to limit the space of a vdb volume use vdb combine with the 'intersect' mode along with a bounding box volume to 'limit' the dimensions. Jordan Walsh
You can add a VDB activate to activate the area you want to manipulate.
