jim c
I'm trying to come up with a reasonably fast way to get a tire geometry object to "compress"/flatten out as it hits the ground. Using a Lattice and Bounds SOP seems to work OK for the bulging out bit, and I can see that you might be able to "fake" the compression a bit by translating the bottom-most points of the lattice upwards by the amount the tire is intersecting the ground, but is there a better way to do this? I've searched around and been surprised so far that I haven't found much on this. I presume I'm missing something obvious...
Guest mantragora
There was implementation of pixar soft contact deformer made in Houdini some time ago, but the guy never posted it, his site seems to not work anymore and I can't find pixar paper it was based on. But it's a start Edited January 8, 2014 by mantragora
jim c
Ick. I was hoping for some quick and dirty VOPs tricks Heck I don't even really need it, just thought it might look kind of cool if I could get it to work.
anim
this may be interesting for you the collision deformation starts at around 5:30 and here is that pixar paper mantragora was talking about http://graphics.pixar.com/library/CartoonCollision/paper.pdf pretty simple to implement in VOPs as well
Guest mantragora
Well, it was totally implemented in VEX from top to bottom Ick.
