nis
Hi, I've started a sim using the splash tank shelf tool and all is going fine however, I'd like to move the position of the static object which was chosen at the beginning of the setup. Moving the object moves the whole sim as it's connected to the autodop network and other networks. Not sure where best to change it's position. Any help would be great
reny
I guess you can use a transform node inside the SOP you want to move? And why parent fluid sim to the object anyway? you can always drive the volume limit center with expression right?
nis
Will try that tanks. It seems the sim gets parented to the object at obj level automatically when you use the shelf tool.
nis
So I tried a transform inside the sop containing the box and it leaves a cutout area when you try and re-sim.
reny
if you check the splash tank help doc, it says if you select an animated object it the tank will follow it, which make sense if you want to do some open water simulation so you don't need a huge tank for that. reny
remember to enable deformed geo on that static obj inside AutoDopNetwork.
nis
Thanks Reny! I checked the help docs but there's no mention of toggling this 'following' behavior off. My object is static.
reny
It says if you want tank to follow, select before you hit enter to complete the shelf tool, so if you don't want it to follow don't select anything.
nis
But if I want flip to react to the box that's there doesn't it need to be connected to the flip solver somehow?
reny
position your box and hit the static obj in ridge body shelf.
Skybar
If you don't have deforming geometry (in this case you do not, its just a static box), it would be way faster to do the animation on Geo-level rather than in SOPs. Then it won't have to calculate the collision volume every frame.
nis
@reny thanks. I always end up making things like this more complex than they have to be.
