Follyx
Hi, I'm relative new to Houdini and hang arround the last year with learning the Basics.... Now the time is arrived where I want to start render my RnD's. But wow, something I'm doing wrong. I.e. the attached file needs more than 4 Minutes on a 32 Core Dual Xeon for one frame. Just check it out and start render this frame. This couldnt be... Would you mind to check the file out and telling me where are my mistakes? Thanks in advance. rse_vopsop_activeCountdown03.hip Edited September 19, 2014 by Follyx
Guest tar
X posted in the SideFx forum; try turning up Verbosity in Mantra to 2 to see the output of what is taking the time. It'll write it out to the console.
Guest tar
with some light testing - dropped the render time 40% at frame 9, 1:27.93r vs 2:17.83r - you can drop the Pixel Samples down and increase the Max Ray Sample- restrict the limits in Shading tab Mantra to the number of bounces you want. your motion blur needing higher samples to become smooth is taking the most time - perhaps it's worth testing with a vector blur post solution. Then you can drop the number of pixel samples to 3 or 4 Edited: clarityy Edited September 19, 2014 by tar
Follyx
Hi Marty, hm, thank you. I already assumed that the Lights an motionblur will need the most time. Try to figure a better setup out. If it wouldnt be so hard, I would integrate MentalRay or VRay or an other renderer as well. I tried it several times with MR but without success.... Anyway, thanks. If you find a better solution please let me know
Follyx
Found a good solution with Motionblur and round about 0:50. Thanks a lot for your suggestions
