Sierra62
I am trying to add Displacement Bound to a mantra surface shader. I have tried adding it through the parameters interface but it's greyed out and won't let me add it. Is there another way to add it? or is it already in the shader? lukeiamyourfather
Try adding the parameter to the objects that will use that material.
Sierra62
I can do that, but I am trying to build a digital asset out of the shader and I would prefer to not have to always add it to the geometry when I use the asset.
lukeiamyourfather
That's usually not how it's done but it should still work. See the attached scene. EDIT: Upload didn't work for some reason, trying again... Edited November 28, 2014 by lukeiamyourfather
Sierra62
I think you may have forgotten to attach it.
lukeiamyourfather
Attachment should work this time. displacementBoundTest.hip
Sierra62
Thanks Luke, I have been able to get the displacement bounds on a new custom material like the one you've done. But I have been trying to get it onto one of the default mantra surface materials and it won't let me.
lukeiamyourfather
Which one of the default materials are you trying to use?
Sierra62
The material I am trying is the mantra surface.
Sierra62
I also just failed to attach a file displacementBoundTest.hip
lukeiamyourfather
The Mantra Surface shader that comes with Houdini already has the parameter added which is probably why it shows as grayed out when trying to add it again. On the shader parameters look under the Displacement tab, then Displacement Map tab, it's the third parameter down.
Sierra62
Thanks Luke, I feel like an idiot for missing it. I think I have spent almost a day trying to find it.
