jrockstad
Hi guys, I'm currently working on a job for which I have been supplied several digital assets in OTL format. We've discovered that a few of the assets are using the same Operator Type, meaning I cannot use those assets in the same scene with each other, which is a big problem for this particular workflow. Unfortunately the client does not have access to the original project files that the assets were saved from and therefore cannot supply me with new, uniquely-named assets. According to the Houdini documentation it is "very difficult to change" the Operator Type after the asset has been saved, but I gather based on that wording, not impossible. I would very much appreciate if anyone might have further insight into how feasible that process might be for me. Thanks!
edward
Have you tried loading them into an empty Houdini session and then in the Operator Type Manager window, right-click on it and choose Copy... Pick a different operator type name and otl file. The difficult part is if the asset is part of some ecosystem where other assets rely on it being named a particularly.
jrockstad
Oh geez, haha, I imagined it would be a good deal more involved than that. Thanks Edward, that seems to work just fine - there are just a few assets I'm dealing with here so there shouldn't be any issues in that regard.
