Realflow particle .BIN import - is this still the best option?

I searched, etc. but was wondering if this is still the most viable way to bring Rf particle sims into Houdini.

 

I'm having a tough time getting particles to do what I want in H but really like the vdb mesh control over the RF mesh.

Have you tried Alembic? It should be an option in the Export Central dialog if you're using a recent version of RealFlow.

No I haven't tried that yet, was thinking ahead but will def check it out thanks.

do you find any problems with the bin format, though? They import fine here through the provided RF plugins.

Haven't tried yet but was anticipating how to import. I'm super rookie using apprentice, so dunno if that's an option.

So I tried an alembic test, and it the RF particles do import.

I was trying to apply the vdb mesh but not sure how to do that with that partic. file.

 

Do I need to convert them at all before the vdb? I tried from particles, particle fluid, and polygons, but no results.

Try putting a Convert SOP after the Alembic import.
