mosy252
Is there any way to create rim shader in arnold for houdini? Just like this link: https://support.solidangle.com/m/mobile.action#page/3868038
hkspowers
Not sure if Arnold for Houdini works like Arnold for Maya off the shelf when it comes to converting existing shaders to render in Arnold, but you can get that same efffect with the ramp shader in Houdini. https://www.dropbox.com/s/3u5i8y4yic3c2rl/untitled.jpg?dl=0 Edited May 23, 2015 by hkspowers
mosy252
thanks for your answer.did you use the houdini ramp or the arnold ramp? I think houidini ramp does'nt work with arnold and the arnold ramp doesnt have this kind of effect. i am new to houdini .can you upload your network shader, for this shader please? Juraj
Hi, recently I've been trying to reproduce rim shader as well. However I couldn't find Houdini's quivalent for Maya's sampler info. I ended up using AO shader with reversed white and black colors. It gave me kind of similar effect. Another way of doing this would by passing attributes but then you are limited by geometry resolution.
jkunz07
It looks like you should be able to use the shading state to get normal and incidence vectors https://support.solidangle.com/display/AFHUG/Shading+State Then math to get dot of normal and incidence vectors https://support.solidangle.com/display/AFHUG/Math+Shaders The result of the dot would get fed into the arnold ramp. I don't have access to arnold in houdini at the moment to test though.
