Motion Vector Pass for Volume using raytrace Engine?

Recommended Posts

Can Houdini generate motion vector  pass for Volumes using raytrace Engine? If Yes, Please share how  and How can we optimise it for faster rendering.

I have tried using micropolygon but it is very slow.

i think rendering vector pass for volumes is not possible from the nature of the thing. vectors can be computed only for surfaces that are constructed out of points (if i am not mistaken). the same applies for any other passes that use point position/velocity (depth pass for instance).

regarding optimization process, i answered similar question today in this thread:

anyways, volumes can be very expensive for rendering if you want a fine detail. while optimization is certainly possible, with more difficult rendering scenarios you should expect long render times.
