how to render fading out particles?

Hi all,

 

Could anyone tell me how to render  fading out particles?

I set a simple scene which included a particle system(created by selecting a sphere and then push the source particle  button in the Particle shelf).

Then, I added a popcolor node to set the color and the alpha  and rendered it.

It still shows full particles without any transparent effects( or fade-out effect) except the dead particles.
