Fostertron
Hi Everyone, I am very new to houdini and I could really do with pointing in the right direction. I've been pulling my hair out trying to work out where to start and I know you guys probably find this task so easy! I've been scouring this forum and as many tutorials as I can find but there doesn't seem to be anything specificy outlining this workflow. What's the best way to animate a yacht through the water? From what I've seen, compositing a splash tank on top of a matching ocean is a good way to go? If so, when I try an initial mantra render, the liquid is very clear and I can't seem to make it look deep like the oceans I've played with. What am I missing? Do I create a mesh to which I apply an ocean shader? Once I know where to begin, I'll do as much as I can to explore that workflow. I would be so grateful for even one word answers! Guest tar
Always best to post a picture and .hip file of where you are at, this can generate more interest than text.
Fostertron
Thanks marty, Here's a picture of the splash tank that I've started. For now, I'm just using a cube for interaction etc. How do I make it make more like a deep ocean? Ideally, I'd like it to match the oceanspectrum that I've been experimenting with with the ocean tool. Here's the Hip file. Let me know if there's any problems with the links. https://www.dropbox.com/s/y8gizd2wmkf4vyi/Splashtank%201.hipnc?dl=0 Thanks again for any help. Fostertron
Hey guys, Thanks s much for the replies! Thanks Pathan, I thought I'd added a hdr but I hadn't! Here's a new image. It's looking much more like an ocean now, I think I just need to play with the oceanspectrum a bit more to get it looking better. Francis, I have seen this tutorial, thank you and I've tried to follow it to the letter. In the video, he mentions that the tank_fluidinterior controls the 'merkiness' of the water. I assume he's referring to the shader assigned to it? Is this the basicliquid or the uniform volume? Which attributes modify the depth of the ocean? Is it the refraction or cloud density etc? Thannks again guys!
