Materials On Packed Primitives?

Hi All,

I have a city of buildings that I am fracturing. All the buildings have the same single color FBX material. I have fractured some of the buildings and written those out as .bgeo.sc sequences.

In my playback scene I use the File node to bring in those .bgeo.sc sequences, however, the color of my buildings no longer match. I know I can unpack the sequence and apply the building material to make them match but I have read that unpacking is the last thing you really want to do.

I tried adding a material to the building before it was fractured but this does not seem to carry along when I write out the .bgeo.sc sequence.

Is there a way to embed a material into a packed .bgeo.sc seuqence or do I just have to bite the bullet and unpack and apply the material in my playback scene?

I am attaching my fracture network that generates the sequence.

if you have assigned material SOP and then you packed the geo and still you want to render that material, you have to go to your Mantra node and change Declare Materials option to Save all SHOPS (by default, it is set to Save Only Referenced Materials). That forces Mantra not only to render packed point geometry but also to look inside and read the SHOP attributes. You can find it under Rendering>Render tab. Also, take a look at Packed Edit SOP.
