Crowd Simulation/Bouncing Balls.

Hello,

I would really appreciate any advice as I would really like to animate this shot where I have tracked footage of steps that I've taken and what I would like to achieve is to have a load of bouncing balls coming down, similar to the Sony advert but not as hectic.

I have so far rigged a ball and began to animate that, but I was wondering if there was a much more effective way of achieving this look, I have attached some images of the steps I have and also some stills from the Sony advert.

I was wondering if a crowd simulation is something that would work for something like this or particles?

Any help is much appreciated, thanks!

Crowd has a particle solver inside but working with crowd can be tricky in this situation. I think a simple pop simulation is the way to go. It is pretty a normal sim and the only issue is the ball squash and stretch which can be achieved by particle hit attributes and controlling a blend shape before and after the hit.
