Particle Sop

hello again. another quick question - i'm using a particle sop to deform some geometry and want to add randomness to the movement based on the particle ID. ther's a button there called add particle id, but when i click on it nothing happens. the only reference to point numbers that i found was vertice numbers. my question is - what is the variable that defines particle sop id? i tried both $pt and $id, but they didn't work.

The add particle ID toggle only applies when the behavior is set to "Particle System". When its set to "Modify Source Geometry" is just acting as another deformer and not actually creating a particle system.

If you just want to and some randomness to some points you could try to use the point Sop?
