art3mis
As I go thru more and more tutorials I am recognizing the power of the file cache node to speed up workflows. My understanding is that you should use a File cache whenever you are creating a sim and are changing or deforming the mesh geometry. Are there any other times that a File cache is useful? What about static geometry that you bring in from another app (I use Modo for modelling) Is there any advantage to caching static geometry after bringing it in( as fbx or obj) even if you have no plans to further manipulate it? One more question has to do with how cached geometry normally works with a material pipeline in Houdini. Would you always be applying your materials as a last step to cached geometry?
