art3mis
Quite confused. Read the documentation http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini/dyno/cache but still don't understand the difference between 'baking' a simulation and caching a simulation to disk in the cache tab of your DOP. Aren't they the same thing? Can anyone clarify?
Guest tar
Think about it. Are any caches permanent in computing?
art3mis
Cache does imply temporary storage. But my thinking was that as long as you didn't change any of your sim settings, your cache files wouldn't become invalidated and Houdini wouldn't delete them. So the net result would be the same. But I understand now that it is better to 'bake' your sims once they are locked in place. Still think that in this context, sesi should not be using 'bake'! Guest tar
so you can check your houdini temp folder and see that the cache files are written there during your session but are deleted once you quit, whilst baking is simply a permanent cache if you like. 'bake' is the vernacular. Nothing misleading about it tbh.
