tjvoll
greetings, I'm trying to get a 3di to make clouds. I'm just running through the tutorial on the apprentice cd, so I'm assuming that using 3d texture generators in apprentice should work. I get the error msg: "Unable to execute program: i3dgen" Anyone know what my problem is? tom
TheUsualAlex
Hi. You may need to check your environment variable to make sure that the environment path includes "$HFS/bin" where $HFS is your Houdini's installation directory.
tjvoll
ok, great! where do i check for this?
mike
if you are working with windows, look under "settings -> control Panel -> system -> environment ". The variable "path" must include you houdini-dirs.
tjvoll
ok, i changed the path and everything but I think the problem had other cause because it didn't start working right after I did that. I was working from the apprentice cd, and i was using the starting .hip file for that tutorial from the cd, which i hadn't yet saved to the HD yet. Other than saving my file to the HD, I also changed the location of the .id3 file to a directory closer to the root of the HD ie. c:\temp\ because I thought maybe it was having trouble finding the location way up in my nested directory structure. Anyway, it works, and that's what I did inbetween it working and not working. So it might sound stupid, but if you have similar problems, try doing those steps.
