sibarrick
VEX shading mode is evaluting the actually shader code and so is slow, (i guess they may speed it up one day what with some graphics card hardware support), at present it's really only intended for viewing single objects as a quick shader preview. Smooth shading mode supports OpenGl texture maps and is way faster. So if you are just using decal texture maps or something stick with smooth shading mode. You might need to turn on texture display under viewport display options/misc tab. It works in conjunction with the openGl tab of each shader. If you need quick rendered previews of procedural shaders turn on ipr rendering in your mantra output rop.
