Stremik
That's it! I'm fed up with damn Windows! I WANT LINUX! Therefore, I need an advice. What to choose and how to install it? I still want to keep Windows just for the sake of Photoshop so I guess dual boot is the way to go. How do I need to set the jumpers on harddrives for dual boot? I have two 40GB harddisks and up until now I've had them set in stripe array(both disks were set as slaves) If anyone has time, please explain evrything step by step. MG
Yet another satisfied Micro$awft Windoze user What to choose? Houdini-wise, especially when you're new to Linux, RedHat would be the best choice I think. I currently using RedHat 7.3 (with customized kernel, latest drivers etc.) and it works all fine. Dual-boot is indeed recommended. And as far as I know, you don't need to change the jumpers on your drive. Unless you have problems booting up in either Linux/Windoze which can be caused by your harddrive's capacity and OS (NT4.0 tends to only with "LBA", and Linux with "normal"; by the way, these settings are done in the BIOS). Speaking of Photoshop, I find The GIMP a VERY nice piece of software! And I haven't missed Photoshop that much so far. I used to have dual-boot Linux/Windoze (NT4.0) on two drives, but if you have problems. Just post them up and I might be able to help you.
