lynbo
Hey All I've got an issue with shadows I have my scene with all my saders nicely laid out in Shopnets in all the places I need them in different objects and whatnot. However I tried the trick from the renderpass workflow tut at sesi, and it would'nt work until I deleted all my shopnets. I also tried the opparm prerender script thing but also to no avail. This seems to be a bug to me. It very well could be scene specific. However my question is this. What is your usual workflow for doing a shadow pass, without deep rasters or EXR. any suggestions would be great. Thanks much -Lyn-
sibarrick
Have you tried using takes? That would be the easiest way I would have thought.
lynbo
Yep Thats what the renderpass workflow tut says to do. I loved the idea except that it did'nt work. I really may have something scene specific. I have managed to get my shadowpass but at the expence of getg rid of my shopnets. Not the prefered workflow. Shadow pass is so basic and rudimentry I am suprised by what I am seeing here. It my be that I am thick, but I think I should be able to quickly and eaisly overide the shading on a ROP by adding a shader to the entire pass. Could you attach some basic hip file example. I work a lot with passes all the time also in case of shadows. By the way: takes can be tricky. For example it's hard to manage in which take you modify your settings. It's easy to derivatate subversion from previous subversion not from a main take. This way you loose control over your scene. If you miss that point you are in trouble. Just one example of my problems with takes... cheers, SY.
lynbo
Sure sure I'll post something this weekend as I don't have the file until I get back. I think I have some shopnet somewhere that Houdini does'nt like. When I remove them I get the result I am looking for. kinda strange. Thanks
