Hi @GregoryStep,

the shortest path node outputs a cost attribute from start to end points that could drive growth. The edge transport and distance along geometry nodes also do measuring towards points. Carve and polycut come to my mind for shortening curves. But I think you would need to specify the kind of growth first.
