Collision Mesh With Hole Not Working

Hi and thanks for your help.  My collision mesh is visible in blue and looks correct with hole in ceiling.

I have a simple 2 story parking garage scene.  I blow up the ceiling using force.  The fractured pieces fly into the air.  When those pieces come back down they don't fall into the hole.

It's not a hard impact either.  They sort of droop over the hole as if there is an invisible canopy.

Ok.  I almost figured it out.  My metaball is the force.  However, my metaball is acting like geo in the scene and is colliding with debris.  How do I continue to use the metaball as a force but have it not interfere with the simulation?
