UV Quickshade not working when inside Subnet/HDA

I have an HDA where I want the render flag set to one stream, and the display tag set to a UV Quickshade node with a texture. As soon as I put the UV quickshade node inside an HDA or subnet, it is only visible when inside that subnet/HDA. Once I come up a level, the quickshade is no longer displaying. Is this intentional, or a bug? Is there any way to override it?

That seems like typical operation to me. QuickShade is an old node used to view UVs in the viewport. It effectively overwrites your material assignment, so you may not want to use it. Try assigning a mtlxStandardSurface and let Houdini detect your UVs. They should show up in the viewport.
