cspears2002
Hi! I'm a Houdini newbie. For some reason, I seem to be generating new views in my scene file. For example, I started out with persp1 and before I knew it I had persp2! Should I be worried about this? How do I prevent it?
old school
Nothing to be concerned about but you should get to know your viewport controls. First, if you get the "hand" icon in the viewport, you are in "view" mode. In this mode, there is no need to hold down the spacebar to execute viewport commands. How you got persp2 is probably working in one of the three default ortho views and you hit 1 changing that ortho view to a perspective view. Since persp1 is already taken as a name, the next name is persp2. If you are in a "state" in the viewer, for example the selection state with the arrow, then you have to hold down the spacebar to execute viewport commands. Spacebar-b will toggle between quad view and single view. All the other viewport splitting options are in the menu button at the top of the view pane right hand side. To see all the options, go to the upper right corner of the viewport where the two yellow boxes containing text are. Pressing on the left most box (persp1, top1, etc...) gives you the menu that controls the viewport. Study that and the shortcuts for each command.
